Sutton Names Two Celtic Players Who Are No Longer “Guaranteed Starters”

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes that Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic will have to fight their way back into Neil Lennon’s first team. Writing in his column for the Daily Record today, the ex-Hoops star says that the depth in the squad means the pair will not always be first choice this season:

“It says a lot about the strength in depth at Celtic when Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham – £10m-plus rated players – are not guaranteed starters. I rate Ntcham and I still think there is a place for Rogic in certain games, even though Ryan Christie has added many more attributes to his game.”

Ntcham has started the Hoops’ last two games, playing the full 90 minutes against Partick Thistle midweek before being given another start in the game versus Hibernian today.

However, Rogic will have his work cut out to displace Ryan Christie from the starting eleven. The Australian international returned from an ankle injury earlier this month but has so far been limited to substitute appearances.

Christie continued with another goal against Hibs this afternoon, taking his tally to 11 for the season from just 17 appearances. As Sutton says, the depth in midfield is something that should hold Celtic in good stead as the season goes on.
