Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton has lavished praise on forward Odsonne Edouard with the TV pundit expecting the Frenchman to become one of the best players in the world.
Virgil van Dijk developed into the world’s best defender when he left the Hoops and Sutton thinks Edouard is destined to follow a similar path to the Dutchman:
“The French striker is going to the very top just like van Dijk and he’s been sensational. The striker can do everything. He links the game, he makes runs, he creates and he is a quality finisher.”
“Edouard really assumed the mantle of responsibility as Lennon chased the nine last season and delivered in emphatic style for his boss and team.”
The likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea have all been mentioned as possible destinations for the 22-year-old, who scored 27 goals in 45 games this season.
Celtic supporters will, though, be hoping that Edouard stays around for at least one more year as the Scottish champions look to secure ten titles in a row.
There has been talk about a potential contract extension for the France Under 21 international, with his current deal expiring in 2022 but, at the moment, a renewal doesn’t seem to be on the cards. Whether that will change in the coming weeks, we shall have to wait and see.
