‘Talks Are Already Underway’ As Celtic Make Approach For Soon To Be Free Agent

Celtic are exploring the possibility of signing Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart on a free transfer, according to the Daily Record. The newspaper claims that “talks are already underway” with the former England international.

Burnley have opted against keeping the 33-year-old beyond the end of his contract on June 30th despite the Premier League season scheduled to finish in July.

Hart has been relegated to second choice at Turf Moor for the last eighteen months, having originally signed from Manchester City in 2018.

This season, he has made just three appearances and the prospect of playing more first-team football in Scotland may attract the veteran keeper into moving north of the border.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon’s preference seems to be on securing a deal for Southampton’s Fraser Forster but with the Saints stalling on a decision over the keeper’s future, the Hoops have now opted to explore other options.

Hart does have a wealth of experience, having won two league titles at City, as well as being capped 75 times by England, but his form has dipped in recent seasons with failed loan spells at Torino and West Ham before he left the Etihad for Burnley.
