The Best Goalkeepers In The Scottish Premiership This Season

Outside of Celtic Park

The Scottish Premiership has plenty of quality goalkeepers this season. In this list, we’ll be featuring everything from reliable sentinels between the sticks to outrageous shot-stoppers.

However, we’ll be taking all goalkeeping attributes into account. We want to include the best all-round ‘keepers the league has to offer – not those who are proficient in just one category.

We’ll also be featuring a certain former Manchester City superstar in this piece – no prizes for guessing who we’re referring to!

Liam Kelly

First up is Liam Kelly – he is the youngest player on this list and has played a vital role in Motherwell’s survival campaign during the current season.

Only two goalkeepers have faced more shots than Kelly this season – in total, he has faced 128 shots on target, preventing 85 of them from hitting the back of the net.

Additionally, no other ‘keeper in the Scottish Premiership has saved more penalties than the 27-year-old – he has kept out two so far this season.

Kelle Roos

Here’s a name that will be familiar to fans of the EFL – Kelle Roos has played for English clubs such as Derby County, Rotherham United and AFC Wimbledon in the past.

While he is always prone to the occasional mistake, he is also capable of pulling off some genuinely astonishing saves – he has become more consistent with age, with his errors being far more infrequent.

So far in the current campaign, no ‘keeper in the Scottish Premiership has a higher save percentage than Roos – currently, it stands at an impressive 74%.

Joe Hart

Joe Hart will always be a contentious figure with football fans across the globe. Some view him as an error-prone klutz, while others believe he is one of the most underappreciated ‘keepers in Premier League history – we share the latter viewpoint.

It’s true, Hart has been known to make silly mistakes, even at his current age of 35. Despite this, he can pull off some astounding saves when he is called upon.

At Manchester City, Hart won no end of trophies – during his time with the Sky Blues, he won two Premier League trophies, one FA Cup and two League Cups.

Ross Laidlaw

Some may see this as a controversial pick, especially over a world-renowned ‘keeper such as Hart, but we feel it’s completely justified. Ross Laidlaw has been sensational this season, despite his team (Ross County) being rooted to the foot of the table.

Despite facing more shots than any other goalkeeper in the division (149), Laidlaw has a remarkably high save percentage – currently, it is 70.5%.

One can only wonder where Ross County would be without this man. Currently, they are just a single point from safety – without Laidlaw between the sticks, it could be much worse.
