The Four Major Threats Celtic Will Need To Look Out For When They Face AC Milan

Outside of Celtic Park

Celtic will be reeling after a very disappointing home defeat against Rangers at the weekend, but they won’t have much time to pick themselves up, with another huge game in just a few days time.

They host an in-form AC Milan side at Celtic Park, who have won all seven of their matches this season, and they are high in confidence after winning the Milan derby on Saturday.

It’s going to be a very tough task to get a victory, considering the Hoops’ poor form heading into the encounter, but it would be a very famous night if they do come away with the three points.

Press the next page as we profile the four major threats from Milan that Celtic will face on Thursday.

Hakan Calhanoglu

Milan’s key playmaker is very influential. He hasn’t set the world alight in Serie A so far this season but he was in red-hot form during the Europe League qualifying rounds.

Calhanoglu racked up four goals and two assists in just three games and Celtic’s midfield will need to shackle him if they want to get a result at Parkhead.

Rafael Leao

The Portuguese Under 21 international is extremely unpredictable and inconsistent but he will be a handful for right wingback Jeremie Frimpong if he starts on Thursday.

Leao provided the assist for Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s second goal in the 2-1 win over arch-rivals Inter at the weekend and he is heading into this match in excellent form.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The Swedish international will undoubtedly be the biggest threat to the Hoops and despite being 39 years of age, he is still performing at a very high level.

Ibrahimovic has had to sit out a few games following a positive test for COVID-19 but he came back with a bang at the weekend, scoring a brace in the Milan derby. With five goals in three appearances, the former Manchester United striker cannot be afforded any space by Celtic’s defence on Thursday or he will punish you.

Theo Hernandez

The Frenchman is an attacking fullback who rampages down the left-flank so, combined with the threat of Rafael Leao, Celtic’s right-hand side could come under a lot of pressure.

Hernandez is an excellent crosser of the ball, and he can chip in with a goal or two as well. This season, he has already scored once and contributed one assist in four league appearances for Milan.
