“There Are A Lot Of Clubs…” Agent Claims Celtic Will Have Competition To Sign 23 Goal Marksman

Celtic will have a battle on their hands to secure the services of NK Maribor striker Zan Vipotnik, according to the player’s agent.

The Hoops have been linked with the 21-year-old in recent days and, while he did confirm the Scottish club’s interest, his representative Sasa Zupan says a number of other teams are also pursuing the forward:

“Yes, there is interest from Celtic for a summer transfer but there a lot of clubs who want to sign Zan when the window opens.”

Glasgow rivals Rangers are not thought to be interested in Vipotnik but Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb are likely to challenge Celtic for the 21-year-old’s signature.

The Slovenian has been in great form this season, having scored 23 goals in all competitions for Maribor, and it led to his first international call-up back in March.

Vipotnik actually scored on his debut for his country, bagging the winner as a substitute during a 2-1 win over Kazakhstan in a European Championship qualifier. He made his first start just a few days later versus San Marino.

Do Celtic need another forward?

With Kyogo Furuhashi leading the line, and Oh Hyeon-gyu having looked impressive at the back end of the season, it is surprising that Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou is looking to bring in a striker.

The Australian may simply feel that Vipotnik has a great deal of potential, although whether he has the ability to dislodge Kyogo from the starting eleven, it remains to be seen.
