“Those Discussions Will Happen” Postecoglou Reveals Deal For 6M Defender Is In The Works

Outside of Celtic Park

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says that he wants to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis.

It is believed the Hoops do have an option to buy the American international (with the cost ranging between £6m and £10m depending on the report you read), but Postecoglou says that, while he is keen to keep the defender, any final decision will rest on future talks with the player:

“I wouldn’t have brought him in if I thought it was a short-term thing. All the players we have brought into the club we have done so with some thought of building a team around them. Building a team means more than just 12 months. But a lot of that depends on the player himself. Those discussions will happen over the next few months.”

Carter-Vickers has impressed since arriving from Tottenham on a season-long loan in the summer. The 23-year-old has generally been more consistent than his centre-back Carl Starfelt, although the pair have struck up a pretty strong partnership.

Despite their struggles in Europe, Celtic have the best defensive record in the Scottish Premiership, conceding 11 in their first 19 matches.

With Carter-Vickers having the potential to improve in the future as well, it is not a surprise that Postecgolou is looking to keep the American for the long term.
