“Top Dollar…” Journalist Suggests Celtic Star Could Fetch 13 TIMES What The Club Paid For Him In January

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley could be worth as much as £20m if the Hoops were willing to part ways with the player, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Ange Postecoglou’s side paid only £1.5m for the Danish Under 21 international back in January but O’Rourke suggests the Scottish champions could be in for a substantial financial windfall if they ever decided to sell him:

“I think in the current market you’re probably looking at O’Riley around the £15m-£20m mark. If you’re seeing how well he did at Celtic last year, and again, if Celtic were to sell him for that price, it would represent a massive profit from what they got from MK Dons as well. So, I think if Celtic were to lose him, I think they would ask for top dollar and I think it would be a good piece of business financially, but I just think that Ange Postecoglou will be looking to keep hold of him and I’m sure if he continues to have another good season, his price tag will be even higher next summer.”

Leicester have been linked with O’Riley, with the Foxes reportedly considering potential replacements for Youri Tielemans. The Belgian still hasn’t left the King Power Stadium yet, though, with interested clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United not yet having made their move.

If Brendan Rodgers’ team do sell the player, though, and pursue a deal for O’Riley before the transfer window closes, it seems Celtic could demand a hefty fee.

The Scottish side are under no pressure to offload players, with their place in the Champions League group stage secure, so there is a strong likelihood that O’Riley will be staying this summer.
