“Tracked His Progress…” Report Claims Celtic Are Pursuing “Highly Regarded” 18 Year Old Defender

Celtic are interested in recruiting Shrewsbury centre-back Ben Crompton this summer, according to the Shropshire Star.

The local newspaper claim that the Hoops have “tracked the progress” of the 18-year-old, who is expected to leave the English League One outfit in the coming weeks.

Crompton was offered a short-term contract by the Shrews but the defender is believed to be keen on looking for opportunities elsewhere in order to secure his long-term future.

The teenager spent the best part of ten years at Wolves’ academy before making the switch to Shrewsbury, where he is reportedly “highly regarded” by the club’s coaching staff.

Crompton arrived at New Meadow as a midfielder but he has played most of his matches as a defender over the past year, with his performances being widely praised.

He is, however, very much one for the future. Although Crompton did train with Shrewsbury’s first team, he did not make a first-team appearance.
