Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is weighing up a move for Celtic winger Daizen Maeda, according to TEAMTalk.

The website claims that Spurs are “exploring the conditions” ahead of making a bid for the Japanese international in a future transfer window.

Postecoglou brought Maeda to Celtic Park, securing his signature from Yokohama F. Marinos for £1.6m after a six-month loan spell in the summer of 2022.

However, the 25-year-old signed a new four-year contract back in July and it is now believed that the Hoops will hold out for a sizeable amount to offload the player.

Celtic are demanding a similar fee to Jota

TEAMTalk claim that the Scottish champions would only contemplate selling Maeda if they receive an offer that is too good to turn down.

Having sold Jota to Al-Ittihad for £25m a couple of months ago, it is believed that they want the same figure for Maeda.

While Celtic supporters appreciate the forward’s work rate, his end product can be found wanting at times. That’s demonstrated by the fact that he has scored 0 goals and contributed just 1 assist in 6 appearances so far this campaign.

With Luis Palma having recently arrived from Aris Thessaloniki as well, there is a decent possibility that the Honduran international will end up taking Maeda’s place on the left wing in the coming weeks.

The summer signing played for the final half-hour against Dundee, and he did show some nice touches. If the winger does impress in upcoming games, it will be interesting to see whether manager Brendan Rodgers does stick with Maeda, even if he continues to struggle to find his shooting boots in front of goal. Were Spurs to tempt Celtic with a massive bid, many fans would probably consider letting him leave.
