Celtic Weigh Up Shock Swoop For £60K A Week Winger Who Has Been Compared To Eden Hazard

Celtic are keeping an eye on Wolves winger Daniel Podence, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Portuguese international is set to leave Molineux this summer, with the player having less than a year left on his contract.

Podence has not played any part in pre-season and was omitted from the matchday squad for the 1-0 defeat against Manchester United on Monday evening.

Wolves are said to be demanding around £12m for the 27-year-old but, with the transfer deadline now only a couple of weeks away, they may have to lower their demands or risk losing him for nothing next year.

With Celtic looking to sign a winger before the end of the summer, it appears the Hoops believe there is a genuine chance that Podence could make the switch north of the border.

Does Podence have other suitors?

La Liga side Real Betis and Premier League rivals Everton are known to be interested in the Wolves player, but the Scottish Sun claim that Celtic would be an attractive destination as they can offer him Champions League football.

However, Podence is earning £60,000 a week at his current club so it is difficult to see personal terms being agreed, unless he is willing to take a pay cut.

What would Celtic be getting if they sign the Portuguese star?

At 5f 5, the winger is one of the shortest players in the English top flight, but he more than makes up for his lack of stature with his excellent technical ability and close ball control.

Back in February last year, when Podence scored the winning goal against Leicester, who were then managed by Brendan Rodgers, talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent likened the winger to Chelsea legend Eden Hazard:

“What a great strike from Podence. Podence reminds me of Hazard.”

Of course, the Portuguese star isn’t in the same class as Hazard but he would certainly get fans off their seats at Celtic Park.
