Journalist Claims Celtic Are “Working” On Deal To Sign A SECOND Swedish International After Lagerbielke

Celtic are in “contact” with Lille about signing fullback Gabriel Gudmundsson, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Galetti said the Scottish champions are “working” on recruiting a new left-back before the transfer window closes:

“Celtic are working for a new left-back and started contact with LOSC Lille for Gabriel Gudmundsson.”

Whether Galetti’s information is accurate or not, we shall have to wait and see, as the Italian isn’t always the most reliable of sources.

Do Celtic need another left-back?

Gudmundsson is the right age (24), he has been capped five times by Sweden and possesses a decent amount of experience having played in both the Eredivisie and Ligue One over the last four years.

However, Celtic are not exactly short of options on the left-hand side of defence, with Greg Taylor first choice and Alexandro Bernabei also at the club. The latter was, though, not in the matchday squad for the win over Ross County on the opening day and he was an unused substitute against Aberdeen, so it could be the case that manager Brendan Rodgers wants an upgrade.

The Irishman has spoken out about potentially bringing Kieran Tierney back to the club as well but Gudmundsson would undoubtedly be a more realistic target than the Arsenal defender.

Gudmundsson could be the second Swedish player to arrive at Celtic this summer

The Hoops are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Gustaf Lagerbielke from Swedish side Elfsborg. He is expected to travel to Glasgow in order to undergo his medical and complete his £3m move to Celtic within the next few days.

Gudmundsson’s international teammate could well be available for the Scottish club’s Viaplay Cup second-round tie against Kilmarnock next weekend, although it remains to be seen if the deal will be wrapped up in time.
