Celtic Poised To Miss Out On 23 Goal Slovenian Ace As £2.6M Transfer Is Agreed

Celtic target Zan Vipotnik is set to seal a €3m (£2.6m) move to Bordeaux, according to L’Equipe.

The French publication claims that the Ligue One side are close to reaching an agreement with the Slovenian international’s club, NK Maribor.

Vipotnik’s agent spoke out in May to say that the Hoops had been pursuing the striker but he did emphasise that a number of other teams across Europe were interested in signing the player too.

It was later revealed that there were ten clubs keen on buying the 21-year-old, with the likes of Augsburg, Hamburg, Hertha Berlin, Empoli, Lecce, Feyenoord, Twente, Real Betis and Club Brugge all wanting the forward, in addition to Bordeaux.

Vipotnik was prolific last season

The Slovenian had a breakout campaign for NK Maribor, scoring 23 goals in all competitions. It also led to him getting his first cap for his country back in March, grabbing a goal on his debut in a 2-1 win over Kazakhstan.

It is, therefore, not surprising that there has been such a clamour to secure Vipotnik’s services this summer, with Bordeaux seemingly coming out on top.

Celtic have other transfer priorities

With Kyogo Furuhashi having signed a new long-term contract, and Oh Hyeon-gyu having only arrived in January to be the Japanese international’s understudy, recruiting another striker was never likely to be top of the agenda for manager Brendan Rodgers.

Replacing Jota after his surprise decision to leave for Saudi Arabia is likely to be the main focus at the moment. The Scottish champions have already wrapped up a deal for Marco Tilio but there is a genuine possibility that the club will also be able to secure the services of Yang Hyun-jun.

His club Gangwon have tried to block his move to Scotland but reports now suggest that a deal could be back on after face-to-face talks with the K-League club’s chief executive Kim Byeong-ji.
