Celtic ‘On High Alert’ As Arsenal Consider ‘Permanent’ Sale Of Defender

Arsenal are looking to sell former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney, according to TEAMtalk.

The Scotland international is currently out on loan at Real Sociedad for the rest of the season but it is now “unlikely” that he will stay with the La Liga club beyond the summer.

With Tierney not having a future at the Emirates, it is believed that the Gunners will look to move the left-back on to another team on a “permanent” basis.

TEAMtalk claim that Celtic are one of the teams who are on “high alert” as they contemplate a bid for the 26-year-old.

Could Tierney come back to Glasgow?

A return to Parkhead would be an attractive proposition for Tierney, although there are a couple of obstacles that could stop a transfer from happening.

Arsenal are said to be keen on getting their money back on the fullback, who was sold by the Hoops for £25m in 2019. There will also be plenty of competition for the player’s signature.

Who will be Celtic’s main challengers for Tierney?

It is believed that there are teams both in the UK and on the continent who are interested in recruiting Tierney once his loan at Real Sociedad comes to an end.

However, it appears as though Aston Villa are the likeliest to make a concerted effort to sign him. Their manager Unai Emery was the one who brought him to Arsenal in the first place and it seems he still rates the left-back very highly.

Purely on financial terms, Celtic would stand very little chance of competing with an English Premier League club, but a lot may depend on Tierney’s own wishes. If he holds a strong enough desire to return to Celtic Park, there could be a way to make it happen.
