Celtic Lead Turkish Giants In Battle To Secure £4M Transfer As Details Of ‘Hefty Sell-On Clause’ Emerge

Celtic are favourites to sign Legia Warsaw defender Maik Nawrocki, according to the Scottish Daily Mail reporter Stephen McGowan.

The reliable journalist claims that Turkish champions Galatasaray have also made a similar bid for the 22-year-old but the Hoops are deemed to have the more attractive proposal as they have included a “hefty sell-one clause”.

It has been reported that Celtic had tabled a bid in the region of €6m (£5.2m) for Nawrocki but McGowan claims the figure is closer to £4m.

Legia Warsaw manager Kosta Runjaic has already spoken out about Nawricki’s situation, stating he is aware that there is strong interest in the Polish Under 21 international.

“There is a serious offer on the table for Maik Nawrocki. However, these are internal issues that I do not want to talk about for now.”

What do Celtic fans need to know about Nawrocki?

The centre-back was actually born in Germany and he came through Werder Bremen’s youth academy before making his first appearance for their B team in 2019.

After failing to make his first-team breakthrough, Nawrocki joined Warta Poznan on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

Legia Warsaw then snapped him up on another loan in the summer of 2021, but the Polish club were also given an option to buy, which they triggered last year.

Nawrocki is a centre-half  by trade, although he has also been deployed as a right-back and holding midfielder during his professional career.

He came close to playing at the World Cup

While Nawrocki has not been capped by Poland at senior level yet, he was selected in the provisional squad for last year’s World Cup in Qatar.

The centre-back was, however, omitted from the final 26 by then-manager Czeslaw Michniewicz, but he will be hoping to make his international debut in the not-too-distant future.
