Celtic transfer target Sydney van Hooijdonk has “expressed his intention” to leave Bologna during the January transfer window, according to TMW.
The Italian website reports that the Dutchman is unhappy about his lack of game time and Bologna are already looking at possible replacements.
Van Hooijdonk, who is the son of former Hoops star Pierre, has made just two starts this season, despite returning from a very successful loan spell at Heerenveen last summer.
During his 12 months with the Eredivisie side, the forward scored 19 times in all competitions. Due to a lack of minutes for Bologna, though, he has only managed to hit the back of the net once so far this campaign.
Celtic have already made “enquiries” about van Hoojdonk’s availability
It was reported last month that the Scottish champions had made contact with Bologna, enquiring about the 23-year-old’s services.
The biggest obstacle to any transfer, though, will be van Hoojdonk’s asking price. Back in the summer, when the striker was first linked with a departure from Italy, it was claimed that Bologna were demanding as much as €5m (£4.3m) for the player. The Hoops may be hoping to land him on an initial loan deal to see whether he is worth bringing in on a permanent basis.
Support for Kyogo is needed
With Kyogo Furuhashi having struggled to reach the heights we have seen from him in previous seasons, manager Brendan Rodgers will surely be seeking reinforcements up front in January.
The main alternative to Kyogo, Oh Hyeon-gyu, has scored just 3 goals in 16 appearances, so there is definitely room for improvement in the striker department.
On top of that, both Kyogo and Oh are set to play in the Asia Cup next month so bringing in another no.9 has taken on extra importance.
