Celtic midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi has suffered an injury in training which is likely to keep him out for the start of the season.
The 25-year-old has only made six appearances for the Hoops following his arrival from Gamba Osaka during the January transfer window. He was sidelined with a knee problem for a number of weeks after being on the receiving end of a vicious tackle in the Scottish Cup fourth round against Alloa shortly after joining the club. His fitness has continued to be an issue since then.
Ideguchi’s absence is even more of a concern with the Scottish champions having failed to bring in a holding midfielder this summer, and fans on Twitter are clearly disappointed that the Japanese international is set for another spell on the sidelines:
We definitely need a holding midfielder then

If we want to progress in europe we need a solid cdm that’s just facts. Have a stellar squad as is but last season we were cut open in midfield in the europa for example

Sadly this seems like the beginning of a trend

Fortune really hasn’t been on Ideguchi’s side since he arrived in Scotland. He would have seen the departure of Nir Bitton from the club as the perfect opportunity to nail down a place in the starting lineup but he will now be playing catch up once the campaign gets underway.
