“We Have Had Nothing” Manager Speaks Out On Reports Of 1.5M Celtic Swoop

Exeter City manager Matt Taylor says the club have not received any bids for winger Joel Randall. It was reported earlier this week that the 21-year-old was being targeted by Celtic and Swansea City.

However, when asked about the rumours, Taylor said he was “surprised” that such a “big” club like the Scottish champions had taken an interest in Randall but he doesn’t anticipate the player leaving during the January transfer window:

“We have had no contact from the two clubs mentioned as yet and I was as surprised as anyone when I saw a big club like Celtic in the headlines. He’s not out of contract at the end of the season, so I can tell you that with all honesty, we have had nothing from those clubs and I am not sure where those stories have come from, whether it is agent talk, or clubs releasing bits and pieces.”

As Taylor mentions, Randall’s contract does not expire in the summer as had been previously reported in the media so they are under no pressure to sell up.

It was claimed that the player was valued at around £1.5m, after a season that has seen him score eight goals in 24 appearances for the Grecians in League Two, but Taylor’s comments suggest that any interest from Celtic in Randall is very unlikely to lead to a formal bid this month.
