“We Will Look At What’s Next…” 4 Cap International Striker Addresses Celtic Transfer Rumours

Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis has played down reports that he could join Celtic at the end of the season.

The Greek international, who has been capped four times by his country, is a player that the Hoops have reportedly scouted in recent months. Asked about a potential move to Scotland, Ioannidis said:

“At the moment my mind is only on Panathinaikos and the national team. I am not thinking about the future. First, let the season end and then we will look at what’s next. I am happy to improve continuously. Year by year, game by game. This is my goal, to help my team as much as I can, both Panathinaikos and the national team.”

“It goes without saying that I can offer even more. I know it, as well as my team-mates. It’s only a matter of time before I start improving and playing at an even higher level.”

To be honest, it’s hard to understand why Celtic would be interested in Ioannidis. As he says himself, he does need to improve, having scored just five goals in 33 appearances this season, despite being a number nine.

You do have to consider the fact that the 23-year-old has only started 15 games in all competitions but it’s hardly a record to write home about.

With manager Ange Postecoglou having the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Oh Hyeon-gyu and even Daizen Maeda at his disposal to play up front, it’s difficult to see where Ioannidis would fit into his plans anyway. The smart money would be on him staying at Panathinaikos this summer.
