“We Would Want Him” Kennedy Opens Up On Celtic’s Chances Of Securing Summer Deal For 31 Year Old

Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy says the Hoops are very keen on signing loanee Fraser Forster on a permanent basis from Southampton.

The 31-year-old has been in superb form since arriving from the Saints in August, and when asked if a transfer would be possible in the summer, Kennedy was confident that the Scottish champions will make a bid if there is a realistic chance of securing his signature:

“If there is a deal to be done, the club can produce something and a deal between Southampton and Fraser is possible, then I’m pretty sure we would try to do it. If Fraser became available we would want him. He has been terrific and made big saves at the big moments.”

The Evening Times have suggested that Celtic already have a purchase option on Forster, but that hasn’t been corroborated by any other source. Kennedy’s comments do suggest some negotiations with Southampton would be required which may suggest an option to buy isn’t in place.

Another hurdle will be Forster’s wage demands. He is reportedly earning around £70,000 a week which is way beyond Celtic’s means, although there have been claims that the goalkeeper is willing to take a pay cut to ensure his move back to Scotland goes ahead.
