Celtic are interested in Hibernian winger Martin Boyle, according to reports in the Scottish media, but Jack Ross’s side are said to be holding out for £1.5m.
It remains to be seen whether the Hoops will opt to pay the asking price, but the interest appears to be genuine after Head of Football Operations Nicky Hammond was seen scouting the player during Hibs’ 2-1 win against Hamilton on Wednesday evening.
The Scottish champions’ pursuit of Boyle has sparked a fierce debate about the Australian international on Twitter in recent days:
A think this boy wid dae well worth a punt

Most Celtic fans,me included, haven’t seen enough of him to say whether he would be a good signing or not,but I would think our scouts have seen him so are probably better able to judge.

Another back up or squad player. Two signings so far are projects. You’d have thought 9IAR was sewn up. We need a show of intent ie a first team starter. Can already hear the excuses…nobody wanted our money….hard to get players in January….

Run of the mill average player who would add nothing to our squad

Yip. Good player. Would add to our armoury. Feels likely.
Just worry about his injury record. We must be the most injury prone club in world Fitba.

Hea fast, limited skill, finishing awful. A massive NO from me and would be a pathetic signing

We don't want back up players we want players that can replace first team players we want quality not quantity if you are happy with that then you are daft again a wasted window

Bargain basement signings. Shved, MJ and Karamoko are all better RWs than Boyle
— Comte de Lautreamont (@ComtedeLautrea2) 23 January 2020
No point signing back ups

Boyle’s arrival at Celtic Park would certainly raise question marks over the future of Marian Shved. The Ukrainian has only played 15 minutes in the Premiership this season and hasn’t even featured in a matchday squad since October.
In stark contrast, Boyle has been a regular for Hibernian, making 17 appearances in all competitions this campaign, scoring six goals and contributing six assists.
