“We’ve Made It Pretty Clear” Bruce Confirms Celtic Linked Star Is Free To Leave But

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that they are looking to move on midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Reports in the local media had claimed that the ex-Celtic player was on the radar of his former club but Bruce says that no deal is close at this point in time:

“We’ve made it pretty clear about Ki’ position, and he’s also made it pretty clear that he wants to go out and play somewhere. We’ll see what happens, but at this particular moment, nothing has really happened in that respect.”

It is believed that wages would be the major stumbling block if the Hoops do try to re-sign Ki. The South Korean international spent two and a half years at Parkhead before leaving for Swansea in August 2012.

After six years in Wales, he made the free transfer switch to Newcastle in the summer of 2018 and went on to make 19 appearances in all competitions last season.

However, the arrival of Bruce on Tyneside has led to Ki falling out of favour. The 30-year-old has played just four games this campaign, with just one start in the Premier League.

With Celtic closing in on the signing of Ismaila Soro, it does seem unlikely that manager Neil Lennon will look to snap up another midfielder this month, but a lot could happen before the window shuts in ten days time.
