Celtic loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi has said he would be disappointed if he has played his last game for the Hoops.

The Scottish Premiership is expected to be declared over on or after April 23rd, meaning the Swiss international will be returning back to Southampton.

Elyounoussi says he is determined to prove himself at his parent club but he wanted to finish the campaign with Celtic after enjoying his time with the Scottish champions:

“I still have three years left of the contract with Southampton. I want to show a better side of myself than what I have done. I hope I can go back and fight for a place next season. But at the same time, I really want to finish the season at Celtic and win the league.”

“I’ve had injuries but it’s been a very nice time in Celtic, especially after how things were going in Southampton. It’s a very strange situation. The plan was a holiday in late May, before I meet for pre-season with Southampton. But now I don’t quite know what will happen.”

The 25-year-old did get off to a fantastic start to his loan spell at Parkhead, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 12 appearances.

However, a foot injury Elyounoussi picked up in November hampered him significantly, and Neil Lennon’s decision to change formation to a 3-5-2 in the New Year meant the Swiss has not had much of an impact since his return to fitness.

There was talk of bringing in the winger on a permanent basis in the summer, but with so much uncertainty surrounding the future of the game during the global health emergency, transfers are likely to be well down the list of priorities.
