Alan Stubbs Makes His Prediction As Celtic Take On Rangers

Outside of Celtic Park

Ex-Celtic captain Alan Stubbs expects his former club to secure victory in their first derby clash of the season against Rangers this afternoon.

Although he does back the Hoops to come out on top at Celtic Park, he believes it will be an open contest, with the two teams pretty well matched in terms of the quality of their squads:

“Celtic’s 100 percent record will continue this weekend but it will be a very open Old Firm. Both teams have great spending power now and are pulling further and further away from the rest of the league.”

Ange Postecoglou’s side do warrant being tagged as favourites. Not only are they playing on their own turf but they have been in excellent form, scoring 21 goals and conceding just one in their first five fixtures.

Of course, derbies don’t always go by the form book, and the last time these two teams met, it was the Gers who came out on top after extra time in the Scottish Cup final back in May.

Winning today’s game would be a big morale boost for Celtic, and it would put down an early marker for the rest of the season.
