Celtic remain interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Hannes Wolf, according to reports in the German media.

The Hoops were originally linked with the Austrian international earlier this month but these latest claims suggest they may have to fight off Rapid Vienna and Trabzonspor for the player’s signature.

Wolf only joined Gladbach on a permanent basis for €9.5m (£8m) in the summer but he has not been given much game time by manager Adi Hutter, who replaced Marco Rose at the start of the season.

The 22-year-old was prolific in front of goal during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, where he attracted the attention of Arsenal and Tottenham, and Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou may see him as a potential alternative to Tom Rogic.

While the Australian has been excellent so far this campaign, he is now 29 and his past fitness record means he cannot be relied upon to play 50+ games a season. We shall see whether the Hoops make a formal approach for Wolf next month.
