Celtic And Rangers Vying To Sign German Under 21 International Who Is Keen To Get More First Team Action

Celtic and Rangers have both made enquiries about Cologne midfielder Denis Huseinbasic, according to reports in the German media.

The 21-year-old only made the move to his current club from Offenbach last summer but his agents are said to be keen for the player to get more first-team football,

During his first season at Cologne, Huseinbasic has started just seven Bundesliga matches, although he did actually start the campaign with the club’s B team.

The midfielder has looked impressive after making his breakthrough into the senior setup and he is attracting the attention of other teams.

In addition to the two Glasgow clubs, scouts from England and France have also been keeping a close eye on Huseinbasic’s development. The German Under 21 international is a central midfield player who likes to get forward, so where he would fit in at Celtic, it is difficult to know.

Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou has Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Tomoki Iwata, Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull who can all play in the middle of the park so Huseinbasic would have a serious challenge on his hands getting starting opportunities.

Whether he is being lined up just in case someone leaves Celtic Park, we shall have to wait and see.
