Celtic Face FIVE Other Clubs In Race To Secure 4.3M Rated Ligue One Starlet

Celtic are one of six teams interested in signing Rennes right-back Brandon Soppy, according to reports in the French media.

The Hoops are said to have opened talks about signing the teenager but there are also two English clubs, two other French sides, and one Italian top-flight outfit interested in the defender.

Soppy broke into Rennes’ first team last season, playing 11 matches in all competitions, but the Ligue One team are willing to let the 19-year-old leave for €5m (£4.3m).

Whether that asking price will put Celtic off, it remains to be seen. Manager Ange Postecoglou is desperate to bring in reinforcements ahead of the Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland later this month, and the right-back area is particularly threadbare.

The Scottish club sold both Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed in the January transfer window, while Jonjoe Kenny only came in as a temporary replacement, with the Englishman returning to Everton in June. Soppy is, therefore, a much-needed addition to the squad.
