Celtic Have Enquired About Signing Ligue One Midfield Enforcer Who Could Be Available On A Free

Celtic and Udinese have both made enquiries about signing Metz holding midfielder Amadou Mbengue, according to reports in the French media.

The 20-year-old only made his senior debut back in October but he went on to make 13 appearances in all competitions last season.

Metz were, however, relegated from Ligue One and current manager Frederic Antonetti is tipped to leave, which means Mbengue’s future is up in the air.

His contract is set to expire at the end of this month, so he could be available on a free transfer very soon, but it is believed that both he and his agent will have conversations with Metz after a decision is made on Antonetti.

Mbengue did come through the youth ranks as a midfielder but, during his spell in the first team last campaign, he did play mostly as a centre-back, so it remains to be seen whether the Hoops are targeting him to strengthen the defence or midfield.
