Celtic have made an approach for Stade de Reims winger Nathanael Mbuku in “recent days” according to Foot Mercato.

The French website claims the Hoops wanted to find out how much it would cost to sign 18-year-old this month. Reims subsequently slapped an €8m (£7.2m) asking price on the player which will likely put off interested clubs.

Mbuku scored five goals, including a hat-trick against Australia, in the U17 World Cup back in 2019 and he has begun to establish himself at club level over the past two seasons.

Celtic are not the only team said to be keen on the France Under 18 international, with Lille and Parma also thought to be tracking the player’s progress.

Whether any team will make a move for Mbuku now they are aware of his price tag, it does seem unlikely, especially as he has only scored one goal and contributed one assist in 13 league games for Reims so far this campaign.
