Celtic In Battle With Two Other Clubs As They Weigh Up £5m Bid For 6ft 5 Colossus

Celtic will have to fight off competition from FC Basel and Montpellier to sign AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The Greek international has emerged as the Hoops’ main alternative to Fraser Forster, who is reluctant to leave Southampton for a second loan spell at Parkhead.

Following the apparent failure to land their main target, Celtic reportedly enquired about Barkas with AEK subsequently telling them that they would have to meet their £5m asking price.

The Scottish champions are now considering whether to shell out on the 6ft 5in goalkeeper or look at potentially cheaper alternatives.

Former England international Joe Hart is available on a free transfer but his poor form in recent seasons may count against him. Celtic could also wait and see whether Forster changes his mind, but, with just one senior keeper currently on the club’s books, they will need to make a decision very soon.
