Celtic Loanee Confirms He Could Leave The Club In January

Celtic defender Filip Benkovic says Leicester City do have the option to recall him in January if the Premier League side choose to do so.

The Croatian international was only signed by the Foxes for £13m at the start of August but was allowed to move to Parkhead on a season-long loan on deadline day.

Speaking about his move to the Hoops, Benkovic was quoted by the Daily Record as saying:

“I didn’t want to spend all season on the bench so I spoke to the manager and told him how much I respect the club, but I want to improve and the only way to do that is to get games, I’m young, I need the minutes on the park and the manager agreed with me.”

“I want to play as much as possible, so a season-long loan with Celtic was agreed and Leicester has the option of recalling me in the winter.”

The 21-year-old was named on the bench for the first time against Rangers at the weekend for the Old Firm Derby. However, he is short of match practice after playing just 30 minutes of first-team football so far this campaign.

Benkovic played his only game for Leicester just a few days before his arrival at Celtic Park, coming on as a substitute in the 4-0 win against Fleetwood Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

With Brendan Rodgers short of numbers in central defence, the loan signing of the Croatian will certainly strengthen the backline.
