Celtic May Have To Wait For 2.6M Transfer Windfall As Club Make New Attempt To Keep Arsenal Linked Striker

Atletico Madrid are trying to re-sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele’s on loan for a second successive season, according to reports in the French media.

The La Liga club originally snapped him up on a temporary basis back in January and had an option to buy the forward for €33.5m (£29m) in the summer.

With Celtic having a 10% sell-on clause, it was hoped that the Scottish club would receive around £2.9m from Dembele’s sale. However, Atletico allowed their deal to expire, prompting speculation that the Frenchman could be snapped up by Arsenal instead.

There appears to be yet another twist in the story, though, with the Spanish side now in discussions with Lyon over a season-long loan, which would have a €30m (£26m) purchase clause included.

If the two sides come to an agreement, it would mean Celtic would stand to earn £2.6m next year, as long as Atletico keep up their end of the bargain this time.
