Celtic Midfielder Provides Update On His Future As He Reveals He’s Still Waiting On Contract Offer

Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton has confirmed he is still waiting on chief executive Peter Lawwell to offer him a new contract, despite his current deal expiring in the summer.

The 28-year-old says he is very happy in Glasgow and would like to stay, but it all depends on whether the Hoops table another proposal:

“It’s something you need to ask Peter Lawwell instead of me. But I love this club and I want to stay. I am settled here, my kids live here, so we will see.”

Bitton will be able to speak to foreign clubs within the next few weeks if no new contract has been signed. The Israeli international has been in and out of the side this campaign but he is someone that manager Neil Lennon has relied upon at times.

His ability to play at both centre-back and in midfield make him a good player to have in the squad, and it was telling that Lennon turned to him in the League Cup final on Sunday when Jeremie Frimpong was sent off in the second half.

Bitton has now been at the club for six and a half years, but this season may well be his last if no new deal is agreed.
