“You Should Never…” – Thierry Henry Slams Celtic Player For His Role In Champions League Defeat

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has criticised Celtic keeper Joe Hart for failing to keep out Calvin Stengs’ freekick against Feyenoord on Tuesday night.

The 36-year-old couldn’t stop the ball from going in despite getting his hands to it and Henry said that the Hoops’ task in the Netherlands was made all the more difficult due to Hart’s error:

“If you could say it was going to sting Celtic, and it did. I mean, you should never concede a goal like that, keeper.”

Fellow pundit Micah Richards tried to defend his former Manchester City teammate but Henry was having none of it.

Hart made amends somewhat by saving a penalty in the second half at De Kuip but the damage had already been done by that point, with the Hoops behind and down to 10 men, after Gustaf Lagerbielke’s red card.

Questions about Hart’s place in the Celtic team have resurfaced

There was a lot of speculation over the summer about Hart’s position, with reports linking the Scottish champions with Croatian international Dominik Livakovic.

However, those rumours ended up coming to nothing, and manager Brendan Rodgers opted to keep faith with Hart. Whether this latest poor performance from the ex-England international will force the Hoops boss to reconsider his stance, we shall have to wait and see.

A disappointing night in Rotterdam

Two sending-offs put pay to any chances of Celtic getting a result in their first Champions League group game, but the real sucker punch came before that.

Rodgers’ men had a decent first 45 minutes and conceding in first-half injury time from a tame freekick was a cruel blow. Hart’s failure to keep the ball out is, therefore, very frustrating. If they had kept a clean sheet going into the interval, there is a good chance that the match would have turned out differently.
