REPORT: Celtic In ‘Talks’ With 2 Players Over New Contracts

Celtic are now in “talks” with both Liam Scales and Rocco Vata about signing contract extensions, according to the Daily Record.

The two Irishmen are in completely different situations in terms of their futures at Parkhead.

Scales will have a year left on his contract at the end of the season, but he has done more than enough to earn himself a new deal.

After returning from a successful loan spell at Aberdeen last summer, the 25-year-old has become as a regular starter in Brendan Rodgers’s side.

Despite spending significant sums on the likes of Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki, Scales has been the favoured partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers in the centre of defence when both players have been fit.

There is less certainty about Vata’s situation

While it appears Scales will be staying put if he agrees fresh terms, the future of his fellow countryman is far less clear cut.

The Daily Record have confirmed that discussions with Vata and his representatives are “ongoing” but, so far, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations.

With the attacking midfielder’s current deal expiring in June, there are only a few months left before he leaves on a free transfer. The Hoops are said to have proposed a four-year extension but interest from abroad may tempt the player into leaving Celtic Park.

Celtic contracts set to expire this summer

In addition to Vata, two other players could leave at the end of the campaign if their contracts are not renewed. First-choice keeper Joe Hart and understudy Scott Bain are in the same boat.

While many expect the latter to leave, Hart’s future is very much up in the air. The former England international has put in some very good performances in recent weeks and Rodgers has spoken out to praise the 36-year-old for his contributions both on and off the pitch.
