Celtic Suffer Double Injury Blow Ahead Of Crucial Fixtures

Celtic defender Hatem Abd Elhamed and winger Mohammed Elyounoussi have both been sidelined with injuries which could hamper the Hoops over the busy festive period.

Norway’s head coach Lars Lagerback has confirmed that Elyounoussi has been sent home after sustaining a foot injury. The 25-year-old will need to be assessed by the Scottish club before an estimate can be made on his return date.

Abd Elhamed’s appears to be a lot more serious. The fullback sustained a groin injury in the 2-1 win over Lazio last week, and he is expected to be out for up to six weeks.

The Israeli international will, therefore, not be available when Celtic face Rangers in the Betfred Cup final next month. It will be a setback to manager Neil Lennon who has used Abd Elhamed in most of the big games this season.

The 28-year-old was outstanding in the first Old Firm Derby back in September, playing at right-back and centre-back in the 2-0 win.
