Celtic targeting Manchester City star

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that the club could be set to make a move for Australia youngster Daniel Arzani.

The 19-year-old represented his nation at this summer’s World Cup, and reports state that he is set to leave current club Melbourne City during the transfer window in order to join Manchester City.

And Rodgers has admitted that he would like to take the playmaker on loan at Parkhead for the upcoming season.

Speaking after Celtic’s 3-1 win over Rosenborg 3-1 in a Champions League qualifier, Rodgers said that there is interest in the youngster but remained tight lipped on how close a deal is.

“I can’t tell you anything about him or anyone else,” he said.

“I was asked before the game about that but all I know is he is a young Australian, very talented player, who came on in the World Cup and looked very good.

“The club are working hard behind the scenes to try to get some signings in so I think he has been one that has been identified.”

The Iranian-born winger has attracted attention from various clubs around Europe, but City look as if they are close to agreeing a deal.

The Blues are expected to pay a fee in the region of £280,000, and then loan him out.

As well as Celtic, it is believed that PSV are also interested in taking the star on loan.
