Celtic’s Toljan Hoping For A Miracle In The Mestalla

Celtic fullback Jeremy Toljan is still holding on to hope that the Hoops can turnaround a two-goal deficit against Valencia tomorrow night.

The Dortmund loanee believes the Scottish champions do have the quality in attack to pull off an upset at the Mestalla. However, the 24-year-old is aware that it will be a tall order:

“As we say in Germany ‘hope never dies’, so we’ll go there with the right attitude and try to beat them. Miracles happen.”

“We have forwards like James Forrest, Oliver Burke and Scott Sinclair, who are very quick and they are also good players. They have also proved they can score goals so I hope we can create the opportunities for them in Spain.”

Celtic’s away record in Europe in recent years hasn’t been particularly good, to say the least. Still, they did seal a 1-0 win against Rosenborg in their last away match in the Europa League group stage. They will be hoping to build on that in Spain tomorrow.

Valencia’s excellent defence is something that Celtic will have to overcome as well. The Spanish club conceded just 20 goals in 24 league games this season. Their record in Europe is nearly as impressive. They conceded just six in six Champions League games in a group that included Manchester United and Juventus.
