There is no truth to claims that former Celtic boss Martin O’Neill is being lined up to replace Neil Lennon in the hot seat at Parkhead, according to the Daily Record.

A document had begun to circle online which showed that an announcement was being planned for the 68-year-old and no.2 Roy Keane to come in and take over the running of the club.

However, the Record were subsequently told that document was “completely false” and that Lennon still has the full backing of owner Dermot Desmond and chief executive Peter Lawwell.

It is believed Desmond’s resolve has been hardened after violent protests from some Celtic supporters following the 2-0 home defeat to Ross County at the weekend.

Lennon’s job is likely to be safe even if Celtic lose to AC Milan on Thursday as it is now effectively a dead rubber, but the next flashpoint is likely to come if the Scottish champions fail to win against St Johnstone this weekend.
