Celtic Star’s Absence From European Games Raises Concerns About Potential 20M Transfer Windfall

Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard’s involvement in the Olympics could see him miss out on crucial games at the start of next season, according to reports in the UK.

The 23-year-old is expected to be named in the squad when France’s Under 23s take on Mexico, South Africa and Japan on July 22nd, 25th and 28th.

It means Edouard will miss the Champions League second-round qualifier, but he could also be unavailable for up to three more games if he makes it all the way to the final of the tournament in Tokyo.

The knockout rounds of the Olympics are held between July 31st and August 7th so he could well be missing for the Champions League third qualifying round, and the subsequent playoff if he needs to quarantine on his return to Scotland.

This could also influence Edouard’s potential sale. The likes of Arsenal, West Ham and Liverpool could all be involved in European games at the same time so they may not want to sign a player who is unavailable for some important fixtures. That could have implications for his asking price, which currently stands at £20m.
