Forster Speaks Out On Whether He’d Like Permanent Stay At Celtic

Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster has said he would be open to staying at the club beyond the end of his loan spell in the summer.

The 31-year-old is due to return to Southampton at the end of the season, and with his contract at the Saints expiring in 2022, the Hoops would have to come to an agreement with the English club over a transfer fee.

However, when asked if he would join on a permanent basis given the opportunity, Forster replied:

“It’s so early in the season, but for me, I’d never ever say no to Celtic. It’s just the relationship I have with everyone here – the fans, people within the club and the coaching staff. That was the big thing for me in the summer when I had to get back out and get back playing.”

Forster’s performances in recent games, particularly against Lazio in the Europa League last Thursday, will certainly help his case for getting a permanent deal.

He was third-choice keeper at Southampton behind Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy so there is certainly a big possibility that he could be available in the summer.

There is, though, some uncertainty over the future of manager Ralph Hasenhuttl after his side lost 9-0 to Leicester, and if there is a different person in charge by June, it could change his circumstances at his parent club.

Still, if Forster has his heart set on a move back to Scotland, it could pave the way for him to come back for good.
