Giakoumakis Makes Bold Title Claim As He Explains Why Celtic Are A “Better Team” Than Rangers

Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis was bullish about the Hoops’ title chances after scoring a hat-trick in the 3-2 win against Dundee yesterday evening.

Rivals Rangers had dropped points after only managing a draw versus Dundee United earlier in the day, and Giakoumakis says his team were aware that grabbing the win could consolidate their position at the top of the table:

“Of course it is something that gives us bigger motivation – but sometimes it also gives you a little bit of pressure if you know the bad result of your opponents. So we showed that we’re a better team, that’s obvious, we showed that we work harder on the field. And I think that we will win the championship. It’s something that we definitely want, for us, for the club and for the fans.”

Giakoumakis has already been quite outspoken since his arrival in Scotland but his latest remarks demonstrate his confidence, which can only be a good thing in terms of his presence in the dressing room.

Of course, it is important that the players don’t underestimate the challenge in front of them. Despite now having a three-point advantage, there could be quite a few twists and turns before the end of the season.

Former Celtic player Frank McAvennie says the title could still be decided in the last two matches between the Glasgow clubs this campaign, and that seems like a fair assessment.
