Hammond ‘Examining’ Move For £5.4m Greek International As Celtic Shortlist 3 Forster Replacements

Despite claims in the Scottish media that Celtic are close to securing Fraser Forster on a second successive loan deal, reports in Greece suggest that the Hoops are still eyeing a move for AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas.

The Scottish champions have previously been linked with the 26-year-old but SDNA say that Head of Football Operations Nicky Hammond is “examining” the Greek international closely ahead of a potential bid this summer.

Barkas is one of three keepers being looked at by Hammond, the website reports, with the club also seeking a potential replacement for Craig Gordon who could leave at the end of his contract this month.

It remains to be seen, though, whether Celtic will decide to go after Barkas, with it being reported that any club would have to pay in excess of €6m (£5.4m) in order to secure the player’s signature.

Especially if the Hoops do sign Forster on loan for a second spell, spending such a sum on another goalkeeper would be very unlikely.
