Ex-Rangers midfielder Ronald de Boer believes Celtic do “deserve” to win the Scottish Premiership title even if the remaining fixtures can’t be played.
In stark contrast with the stance of his former club, the Dutchman said that much like with Liverpool in England, where they are streets ahead of second place, the Hoops should be handed the league championship:
“I’d love to see Rangers win the league again after all this time but you have to be objective. Celtic are well clear at the moment and like Liverpool in England, they deserve to win it. If you have to nominate a winner then you have to say Liverpool, and the same counts for Celtic.”
Fans on Twitter are happy with De Boer’s remarks:
It’s true we deserve to win it, but it’s nice of Ronald to acknowledge that fact. Not sure others in a similar position to him feel the same way. He won’t be Mr Popular now. pic.twitter.com/cjFqSO8MRt

A Sporting person not caught up in keeping the hordes happy, make no mistake if they were offered a playoff to decide title and won they’d celebrate that like it was the biggest win ever, so I’ll ignore they’re tainted title nonsense, they know we’re better

De Boer’s comments will certainly not go down well with Rangers fans but the former Ajax and Barcelona star is simply aligning himself with the vast majority of people’s opinions.
UEFA have ruled that top-flight leagues must end on “sporting merit” and have effectively ruled out a “null and void” scenario.
Celtic supporters would rather have won the title on the pitch but that looks unrealistic. With games unlikely to be played anytime soon due to the ongoing global health crisis, a decision will need to be made by the SPFL at some point in the not too distant future.
