“I Am Exploring This” McGregor Raises Prospect Of Celtic Takeover After Previous United And Chelsea Interest

Outside of Celtic Park

UFC fighter Conor McGregor has revealed that he is weighing up a move to buy Celtic from majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.

The Irishman has also been linked with bids for Manchester United and Chelsea in the past, but many have questioned his ability to come up with the funds for such takeovers. McGregor, however, insists he is serious, and he mentioned the Hoops as a possible option when citing teams he could table offers for:

“I do not speak in jest. I am exploring this, as I said. Celtic from Dermot Desmond, Manchester United from the Glaziers, and now the recently up for sale Chelsea football club. All being explored. A football franchise purchase is in my future make no mistake about it.”

It should be pointed out that there is a significant disparity between Desmond and McGregor in terms of net worth. While Celtic’s current owner is worth approximately $2.2billion, McGregor only has around $180m.

Unless he has a billionaire willing to partner him, you would have to say that McGregor has very little chance of buying either Celtic or any team in the Premier League. You do feel that this is more about publicitiy rather than anything more substantial.
