“It Would Be Electric…” Pundit Backs Celtic And Rangers For Premier League Switch

TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara says the Premier League would greatly benefit if Celtic and Rangers were to join the English top flight in the future.

There has been talk about the two Glasgow giants playing down south for the past two decades but nothing has come of it. Even so, O’Hara says he hopes it happens one day:

“I would love to have Celtic and Rangers in the Premier League. They are massive football clubs, great stadiums, fans. It would be electric and with the finances, they would have more money, they are massive clubs, probably bigger than a lot of the teams in there. If one day you can get them in, it would be great. The Premier League has gone to another level, we are leaving the world behind.”

Financially, switching to the Premier League would make a great deal of sense for both Celtic and their Glasgow rivals. Revenue from TV rights is astronomical south of the border, and there would also be benefits in terms of sponsorship and gate receipts.

However, there are also plenty of arguments against the move. Champions League qualification would be a lot harder and, with top spot now securing automatic qualification for the group stages, there is more incentive to remain as part of the Scottish Premiership.

The impact it would have on other Scottish clubs, if the two biggest teams were to leave, would also be devastating, so the implications of the decision would be huge. At the moment, though, any league change looks a long way off.
