McGregor Says He’s Hoping Celtic Keep Key Figure “As Long As We Can” Amid Chelsea Rumours

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has praised manager Ange Postecoglou following reports that Chelsea have considered the Australian as a candidate to be their next head coach.

While ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is considered the favourite to be appointed by the Blues, Postecoglou is among the other names that have been shortlisted, but McGregor is hoping the 57-year-old remains in Glasgow for a while longer:

“His work is outstanding and he’s a really good person. That’s the type of people you want to work with and we would be delighted to keep Ange as long as we can.”

Hoops supporters shouldn’t be overly concerned about the prospect of Postecoglou moving south of the border. Reliable journalists have suggested that, while Chelsea have looked at the Celtic manager as an option, he has never been regarded as a frontrunner.

Postecoglou’s success in Scotland has clearly attracted the attention of plenty of teams in England. Before Chelsea, he was also linked with jobs at Spurs, Everton, Leeds, Wolves and Leicester.

You can’t see the Australian leaving Parkhead before the end of the season but, beyond that, it is hard to know how long Celtic can keep hold of him.
