Celtic captain Scott Brown has raised the possibility of extending his playing career beyond the end of next season.
The club legend’s current deal was expected to be his last, with the player turning 36 next year, but Brown has hinted he could yet play on if he feels up to the task:
“I’ll keep playing until somebody says, ‘Right Broonie, your legs have completely gone and you’re starting to embarrass yourself in front of 60,000 fans”
“As long as I’m still keeping up with the lads and the manager has faith in me to play, I’m willing to do that. It might not be 60 games a season, it might be 30 or 40 or whatever he needs me for.”
Most fans on Twitter are delighted that Brown is keeping his options open:

1 of/ our best player this season. When we struggled, and will, nobody at the club like him that can get us out just now. Nobody. Big games especially when we get steamrollered like boys in midfield he stands alone.
Needs a rest/ ultimately replaced. Hand in the pocket needed ?

Still a top performer most of the time he plays however I don’t think he should be playing every single game. The guy deserves a rest every now and again. I also think we really need to start identifying some targets or nurturing those already at the club to replace him one day.

Central midfield is a demanding position, and as Brown mentions, if he doesn’t have the legs and the dynamism to play the role anymore that could spell the end of his career.
Going by his performances this campaign, though, there appears to be some life in the old dog yet. He has played an incredible 50 games in all competitions, starting 49 of them.
Brown may, however, feel that next season is the ideal time to end his career with the prospect of Celtic potentially sealing a historic tenth league title in a row.
