Peruvian Star’s Father Confirms Celtic Are Vying With Rangers To Sign His Son

Celtic and Rangers are both competing to sign Feyenoord holding midfielder Renato Tapia, according to the player’s father.

The Peruvian international has been heavily linked with a switch to Spanish side Celta Vigo but Luis Tapia has rubbished those claims, stating the midfielder has a number of teams interested in signing him:

“I’ve read the reports saying that Renato has agreed to sign for Celta Vigo and they are not true. There are a number of clubs interested in him, including both Celtic and Rangers from Scotland and Angers in France.”

“For the moment, he will see his contract out with Feyenoord and will continue to train there. Nothing has been decided about his next move and we are waiting on more offers.”

Tapias’ current deal at Feyenoord expires at the end of this month, and he will be available on a free transfer.

Considering the midfielder is only 24 years of age, and was a regular for his club this season, it is not a surprise that the player is in demand.

Celtic could do with adding depth in the middle of the park, with captain Scott Brown and Callum McGregor having played the majority of games under manager Neil Lennon this season.

Ismaila Soro was brought in from Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv in January but the Ivorian has yet to be given his first-team debut.
