Real Madrid Named Among Five Other Teams Challenging Celtic For Spanish Teenage Sensation

Real Madrid have joined Celtic in the race for Atletico Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme, according to AS. The Madrid based publication claims the 13 Time European Cup winners are now one of six clubs looking to sign the 20-year-old.

Valencia, Real Betis, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are also involved in the battle, with the former Spanish Under 17 international’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

Atletico have reportedly made Riquelme’s contract renewal their top priority for the summer, but the midfielder is said to be unhappy about the lack of first-team football he has been given by manager Diego Simeone this campaign.

The winger has made just two substitute appearances, one against Eibar in the 3-2 league win back in September, and the other coming against Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey in January.

Riquelme’s best performances have come in the UEFA Youth League this season, with his hat-trick of assists against Rangers in February having brought him to the attention of Celtic.
